For the next few months, community members will have the option to purchase a brick, which will be installed at the Harris Community Village and Resource Center. Money spent on bricks will be donated to help those in the unsheltered and at-risk populations in Tooele County.
The fundraiser started at the beginning of September and it will run for a few months, according to Wiremu (William) Bayliss, Switchpoint’s regional director.
Bricks purchased will be engraved by a company with anything the buyer wants, including a name, special message, or a tribute to a loved one. Bricks will be installed in a garden dedicated in appreciation to the donations received. Once the campaign ends, the company will produce the engraved bricks, and they will be delivered to the resource center for installation.
Bricks will cost around $250 for a 4×8, $500 for an 8×8, and $750 for a 12×12.
“Buyers are supporting many vital operations with one donation of even the smallest brick,” Bayliss said. “With a $250 donation for a 4×8 brick, we will be able to purchase food for around 20 meals… We do a lot of community client work and our fleet of vehicles need upkeep. There are so many ways in which our shelter operations will benefit by these donations.”
The Community Resource Center operates under the parent name “Switchpoint,” a non-profit, private organization, which currently operates the Tooele Food Pantry and Tooele Thrift, as well as Switchpoint Coffee Co.
