Three young Tooele mothers will receive the love and support from the community as they battle the ravages of cancer.

Kickin’ Cancer’s Can, now in its 12th year, will collect contributions from businesses and individuals throughout Tooele Valley on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Parker’s Park in the Overlake development.

Emi Curtis, Michelle Lingenfelter, and Priscila Sartori have been designated as the 2024 recipients.

The goal of Kickin’ Cancer’s Can, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is to assist people in the Tooele community in their battle against cancer.

Since its inception in 2011, 34 Tooele Valley residents have received a total of $200,000 in donations through the annual Kickin’ Cancer’s Can event.

“Every dollar has gone directly to help ease the financial burden these people and their families carry as they battle cancer,” said Andrea Rawlings, founder of Kickin’ Cancer’s Can.

She points out that in addition to the exorbitant medical costs—almost always exceeding insurance coverage—there are additional costs placed upon families.

“These include prescriptions, gas for trips to medical professionals, child care, time lost at work, and a host of other unexpected expenses,” Rawlings said. “It’s unfair that these wonderful people must face these challenges on top of doing everything possible to help a loved one battle cancer.”

Tooele Valley residents and businesses can help ease the pain these families face by participating in the Oct. 12 event that runs from 4 until 9 p.m.

The action-filled evening includes a 5K run/walk, kiddie run, silent auction, bake sale, children’s activities, music, and concessions.

“Each year, Kickin’ Cancer’s Can brings an increased amount of pride, unity, encouragement, and hope to people fighting cancer,” Rawlings said.

In addition to the exciting community event, the following opportunities for businesses to contribute are available. They all include various benefits to the donor, such as banners of the business, interaction with participants, tee shirt logos, marketing items in SWAG bags, website links, and others depending on the sponsorship.

Since all committee members donate their time and people’s goods and services for the community event, all financial contributions go directly to the three selected families.
