Following a 62-14 rout by the Desert Hills Thunder last week, the Stansbury Stallions football team now has an opponent lined up for this Friday’s second-round playoff game.
After winning their regular season-finale 56-21 over the Tooele Buffaloes, Stansbury ended the season with a 7-3 record overall and a perfect 6-0 record in the 4A Region 10. Likewise, Desert Hills finished its season with a 7-3 record, with a 5-1 record in the 4A Region 9.
Although the Stallions didn’t have a preference for their playoff-opening bout, which will take place at Stansbury High School, head coach Lee Leslie said the team has been on their radar regardless. The two teams did not face one another this season, but Desert Hills is currently riding a five-game winning streak whereas Stansbury has won their past three.
“Desert Hills is a physical team with a great running game,” he said. “We had two weeks to prepare for them and we are already dialed in.”
Leslie added that his team has hit its stride leading up to the playoffs and should be all in for the Nov. 1 game.
“Football is the ultimate team game,” he said. “Honestly, we are right where you want a team to be heading into the playoffs.”
The game kicks off at 6 p.m.
