Fatal accident near Lake PointFree Access
A head-on collision caused one death on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 27 on exit 99.
At 3:57 p.m., the driver of a maroon Ford Explorer crossed the centerline on the eastbound I-80 ramp on exit 99, colliding head-on with a green Ford F150, according to a press release by the Utah Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 69-year-old female, sustained fatal injuries in the accident. The driver of the Ford F150, a 61-year-old male, was airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The current condition of the male is unknown. The Ford F150 burst into flames on scene after the accident, warranting a response from the North Tooele Fire District.
The exit was closed for several hours following the crash, causing a backup for several hours and forcing drivers to take an alternate route home.
