A fire, which started near the viaduct in Tooele City on the evening of Tuesday, August 20, burned over an acre of land.
Firefighters from the Tooele City Fire Department were dispatched to 1700 N. Main Street at approximately 4:55 p.m. With aid from the Tooele County assistant fire warden and two Bureau of Land Management crews, they were able to put out the fire within 30 minutes, according to Tooele City’s Fire Chief, Matt McCoy.
Crews were on scene for an additional two hours, ensuring that the fire didn’t reignite. During the fire, around 1.2 acres were burned, and the cause is currently under investigation. No injuries were reported, and no structures were threatened, McCoy said.
Tooele City firefighters want to remind residents driving in the area of fires to slow down.
“Visibilities were down due to smoke during the fire,” McCoy said. “There was a lot of smoke covering Main Street. People should use caution around active fires and slow down.”
