A woman is facing charges of two felonies after she allegedly cut off a truck in traffic, pulled over behind the vehicle, and pulled a firearm on the man in the truck.

The woman, who is currently 30-years-old, is facing charges of aggravated assault and reckless driving, both third-degree felonies.

On September 14, an individual called dispatch to report that he had been involved in a road rage incident on SR-112 while returning home to Grantsville, according to a probable cause statement written by the arresting officer.

The victim described a newer model Toyota Camry, black in color, with black rims and a spoiler on the back trunk. He said that the vehicle cut him off and proceeded to drive in an aggressive manner. The victim told police that the vehicle kept brake checking him and slowing down, impeding traffic.

The victim said he pulled over at the intersection of SR-112 and Durfee Street in Grantsville. The driver of the Camry reportedly pulled over too. The victim told police that he exited his vehicle and the female driver of the Camry also exited. He described the female driver as someone in their late 30s to early 40s with blond hair and a pink shirt, according to the pc statement.

He stated that the woman was yelling at him and drew a handgun from a purse, leveled it, and pointed it at his face. The victim described the weapon as a black 9mm handgun and stated that it looked similar to a Glock 17, but smaller. The victim then ran back to his truck and drove away. The victim’s grandmother was in his truck and also reported seeing the same female approach her grandson and point the handgun at his head.

The vehicle’s description was run through a database and a vehicle that matched the description provided by the victim was found. The vehicle was positively identified as a black, 2021 Toyota Camry with black rims and a spoiler. A photo of the vehicle was shown to the victim, who also positively identified the vehicle. The vehicle came back as registered to the woman. She also matched the description provided by the victim and his grandmother, and she was identified as the driver of the Camry, according to the pc statement.

The victim’s license plate was also run through a database. Both the victim’s vehicle and the Camry were seen by cameras along SR-112 and Durfee Street at nearly the same time, corroborating the timeline of events provided by the victim, according to the pc statement.

Officers arrived at the woman’s home and made contact with her. She was reportedly very loud and argumentative, and shouted obscenities at police. She stated that she had passed a truck on the way into town that was driving slowly, and admitted that she had yelled and flipped the driver off. When asked about the incident that occurred at the intersection of SR-112 and Durfee Street, she denied getting out of her vehicle and stated that she confronted the other driver.

The officer asked her if she owned a gun. The woman said that her husband and son both did, but she denied carrying a handgun at the time of the incident. When an officer stated that the victim reported that she had exited her vehicle and began cursing at him, she stated that she wished she had done that, according to the pc statement.

The woman was placed under arrest based upon details provided by the victim and corresponding database records. When the woman was searched, she was found to have a THC vape in her front pocket. It was later found that her husband carried a Cannabis Caregiver Card. Officers also spoke with the woman’s husband who said he did have a 9mm handgun in the home, along with other firearms.

Detectives spoke with the woman during an interview. She stated that her family did own a small, black handgun, and she described nearly the same details related to the firearm as the victim. A search warrant for the residence was approved and while searching the residence, officers located a silver 9mm handgun as well as a black BB gun that was molded as a replica of a Sig Saur 1911 that was black in color. The gun was found stashed in a clear plastic drawer in the very back of the bedroom closet where another handgun was found. Detectives told the arresting officer that the woman said she and one of her sons had been outside shooting the BB gun recently. Small targets were also observed on the ground in the back yard with BB marks on them.

The woman, Hilary Ann Shefer, was held on a $2,500 bail. She was able to make bail on September 15. Being charged with a crime does not imply guilt.
