One of Tooele County’s largest events, the Honey Harvest Festival, took place in Grantsville over the weekend with more than 7,000 people in attendance.

The 11th annual festival was held at the Clark Historic Farm on both Friday, Oct. 11, and Sat., Oct. 12.

The event included honey for sale, local vendors, beekeeping demonstrations, hands-on exhibits, the opportunity to taste honey from around the world, an art show, bounce houses, a petting zoo, contests, and games for children. Entertainment at the festival included dance groups, singers, and the Sweet Fiddlin’ Fest on Saturday. This year, five senior women were also recognized as honorary queen bees on Friday evening. The honorary bees included Ellen Yates, Eve Kee, Kenna Christensen, Madge Millward, and Shanna Judd.

The honorary bees were nominated based on their contributions to the community, according to Laurie Hurst, Clark Historic Farm’s executive director and an organizer of the Honey Harvest Festival. The honorary queen bees were given a crown, sash, and certificates during the event.

Each year, the Honey Harvest Festival is one of the most well-attended events in Tooele County. This year, people traveled from Tooele, surrounding communities, and Northern Utah to attend. There were also attendees from Evanston, Minnesota, and Washington at the event, Hurst said.

The Honey Harvest Festival was first held in 2012 as a way to bring more life to the Clark Historic Farm. It has only been canceled once in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
