A house fire in Tooele City burned a house, shed, fence, and a motorhome last week and damaged the outside of another nearby house.
The fire was reported at approximately 3:47 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, on 700 South, according to Matt McCoy, Tooele City’s fire chief.
The fire first started in the backyard area of the home. It spread to a nearby fence and then spread to a shed on the property to the west, due to strong south winds. After the shed caught on fire and was fully engulfed, the house caught on fire. The fire burned the exterior of the house to the west, but no damage was done inside. A motorhome also caught on fire during the incident, McCoy said.
Tooele City Fire Department, North Tooele Fire District, Tooele Army Depot Fire Department, Mountain West Medical Center ambulance staff, and the officers from the Tooele City Police Department all responded to the scene. It took approximately 45 minutes to put out the fire. Firefighters remained on scene until 6:30 p.m. to ensure that the fire didn’t reignite.
All residents were out of the home at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported; however, firefighters rescued the family dog out of the home during the fire, McCoy said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
