*****Update: At 5:46 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, UtahWildfire reported that the fire is estimated to be 100 acres and 0% contained. Previous evacuation orders have been lifted. Crews are actively working the fire from the ground and air with the help of the state’s Type 1 helicopter.There are 25 firefighters and 6 engines are on scene.
The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands describes Type 1 helicopters as the largest and fastest in wildfire suppression. These aircraft are able to deliver large amounts of water or retardant as they assist ground crews and other aircraft.
The South Willow Fire, in the mountains southwest of Grantsville on private land in the Stansbury Range, was first discovered at 12:06 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11.
The first reports placed the fire at approximately 20 acres. It has now been reported to have reached 100 acres and is being spread by winds, according to Utah Fire Info.
Originally reported as human caused. The cause is now listed as natural, caused by lightning.
An evacuation order has been placed for North Willow Canyon.
Air resources are on the scene along with local, state and federal crews. Dozers and more crews and air resources have been ordered.
