After graduating, he began teaching at Pleasant Grove High School and eventually served as football coach. Ron dedicated 34 years to teaching at Pleasant Grove High before retiring.
In addition to teaching and coaching, Ron was also a respected high school wrestling referee. He was an avid sports fan and closely followed his favorite teams.
Ron’s children fondly remember how, even many years after he stopped coaching, they would often hear someone call out “Coach Nielson!” when they were out together. A former student would come by to say hello, and Ron was always delighted to see them and happy to spend time catching up.
Ron loved fishing, golf, and cheering on his favorite sports teams.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald. He is survived by his wife LaRae; his children Angela (LaMarr) Taylor, Eric Nielson, and Julie Arrington; his grandchildren Preston, Tanner, Sierra, Hannah, Max, Paige, Josh, and CJ; and his siblings Carole and Keith.
In keeping with Ron’s wishes, his immediate family will hold a private memorial.
