People dressed us in Halloween contests during the carnival in 2023.

The second annual Special Needs Carnival will take place on Saturday, October 12, in Tooele City and include games, a magician show, and more.

The carnival will be held at the Dow James Building, located at 438 W. 400 North, in Tooele City, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All those with special needs and their siblings are invited to attend for free.

The event will include carnival-style games, a magician at noon, photos with princesses, a Tooele City fire truck, face painting, and cookie decorating. Those attending are welcome to wear a Halloween costume.

The carnival is being put on by Group 1 Real Estate and is sponsored by Energy Solutions, Happy Hearts and Busy Hands Preschool, and Utah Parent Center, a nonprofit company.

The event was first created by Berna Sloan, who owns Group 1 Real Estate with her husband, Chris Sloan. Berna’s friend, who runs the Utah Parent Center, has a daughter with special needs.

“It was because of her daughter and one of our [Group 1 Real Estate’s] agents sons that I decided to start this,” Sloan said.

Last year, around 100 people attended, with some being from as far away as Draper.

There is no age limit to attend the carnival.

“This is all for the kids, and the kids all have a good time,” Sloan said. “This will be a free and fun environment for everyone.”
