All three Tooele County high school football squads won their respective games Friday night, with Grantsville playing the lone home game.

Grantsville cruises past North Sanpete with 52-14 victory at home

A 21-point scoring outburst in the first quarter set the stage for a blowout win for the Cowboys over the North Sanpete Hawks. The team then followed it up with a 17-0 second quarter, while only surrendering a single touchdown to the Hawks.

Leading 38-7 to start the half, Grantsville cooled off some offensively but maintained a wide lead with strong defense against North Sanpete. The Hawks could only muster one last touchdown throughout the final two quarters, as a 14-point production by the Cowboys sealed the mercy rule accelerated clock and resulted in a 52-14 victory.

The Cowboys now boast a 4-1 record ahead of their first region game at Ben Lomond next Friday at 7 p.m.

Tooele outpaces Cottonwood, win 31-14 on the road

The Buffaloes ended a three-game losing streak Friday night, edging out the Cottonwood Colts 31-14 in Salt Lake City. Following a 17-7 advantage over the first two quarters, Tooele added another two touchdowns in the third and fourth frames while allowing only 14 games throughout the entire game.

With the win, Tooele’s record improves to 2-3 with their homecoming game awaiting them on Sept. 20, where they host the Hillcrest Huskies at 7 p.m.

Stansbury topples Jordan High 55-3

Just as Grantsville did in their game, the Stallions jumped ahead 21-0 over the Beetdiggers on the road Friday night. Defensively Stansbury held Jordan to only one field goal and earned their third win of the season to go 3-2 over their first five games.

Stansbury also has a homecoming game next Friday night, playing host to the Park City Miners at 7 p.m.
