Community members attended the Tooele Rendezvous, held outside at the Dow James Building in Tooele, over the weekend.

The Rendezvous included a pre-1840’s encampment, food, goods for sale, kids’ crafts, and demonstrations.

The annual, infamous Tooele event was held on Friday, September 27, Saturday, September 28, and Sunday, September 29.

The festival included around 40 vendors selling animal furs, books, antique cookware, beads, clothing, candy, old-fashioned root beer, knives, purses and bags, and a variety of other goods. The festival also included games for children, a candy cannon, a black powder shoot, archery, and the PANDOS, or “Peaceful Advocates for Native Dialogue and Organizing Support,” group.

The PANDOS group provided Native American Dancing and held a “Defend the Sacred” Powwow.

Altogether, over 2,500 people attended the rendezvous.

The Tooele Gem and Mineral Show also took place at the same location inside the Dow James building. The show, put on by the Tooele Gem and Mineral Society, included a raffle and various rocks for sale.

The Tooele Rendezvous, formerly known as the “Mountain Man Rendezvous,” was first started by Glenn “Grandfather” Rose over 30 years ago. Prior to the event, the Gem and Mineral Show was held annually, but rock and gem organizers thought it would be beneficial to put on a rendezvous at the same time as the event.

The festival takes all year to organize and is one of the largest events held in the county, according to Blair Hope, the organizer of the event.

“It’s an honor and a pleasure to put on a free event for the public,” Hope said.
