Tooele City’s one and only food truck park, Main Street Mobile Eats, has been around for a year this week. Originally the owners were planning a big event this weekend, but the event has been rescheduled for the end of May due to forecasted rain.

Main Street Mobile eats is located next to the GSI Pawnshop at 324 N. Main Street. Kenny Gregrich, owner of the pawn shop, first opened the mobile food truck park on April 27, 2023. Although Main Street Mobile Eats is now only a year old, food trucks first started parking in Gregrich’s parking lot over 15 years ago off and on, inspiring the idea for the business.

Each day, Wednesday through Saturday, food trucks set up shop for the day, or for the lunch or dinner rush, and go home at the end of the evening. Although several trucks frequent Main Street Mobile Eats, the rotation of trucks allows for variety. Some of the food trucks, like the popular Bacio D’ Italia, seem to set up shop at the park on a regular basis, but some visit less frequently or only once.

“It took us a while to get in the swing of things and figure out how we were going to do this,” Gregrich told the Transcript. “At first, we thought we would have four permanent food trucks who would always be here and maybe switch one temporarily to have a rotating spot, but we quickly realized that probably wouldn’t be the best situation. We decided to have new vendors all of the time, so we were always bringing new food to Tooele. A variety seemed to be what people really wanted. Although there are a lot of restaurants in Tooele, the variety is limited. We bring varieties of food from all different countries.”

Gregrich said he likes to schedule one or trucks offering food items, and either a dessert or a beverage truck at the same time so that food truck owners don’t have to compete for business. Since opening, food trucks have parked at Main Street Mobile Eats over 250 times.

“Most of the vendors do so well here,” Gregrich said. “It’s gone really well. The vendors love coming here to Tooele and they say they do better here than other locations… We’ve gotten a nice flow of getting food trucks scheduled… Our calendar is usually booked a few months in advance. I’m really happy with the way things are.”

Gregrich is working to open a larger parking lot behind the pawn shop.

“Some nights it gets really busy here and we have to go out and almost direct traffic because the parking lot is so busy,” he said. “We have a lot of empty space behind our building. It’s usually fenced off, but we are working on cleaning that area up and striping it, so when we need to, we can open the gate and let people park back there.”

Originally, Gregrich planned on hosting a big one-year anniversary event at the location this weekend on Friday and Saturday, but because of a forecast of nothing but rain, the event will likely be rescheduled for May 31 and June 1. During the event, several food trucks and vendors will set up shop, along with a company selling ciders and beer. There will also be a car show.
